Penny's Diaries

Date: The company left Bremen and headed to Caer Dineval - named after the original families occupation of the fortification. The Caer was raided by orcs many years ago and was taken over for some time before a united front of representatives from Ten Towns evicted the greenskins and handed it back to the locals. The Town Crier had been "sick" for some time and was not seeing anyone, and we were unable to locate any information from around town so went straight to the source. Nothing else, not even the Tavern, was of interest, so to the fort we went. Hostility at the front door from the guards made us resort to the charming of them to let us in. They referred to moden medicine and Birchs' belief as "heathen", immediately raising our suspicions. Looking for the tiefling twins and the missing dwarf with the amulets was also on our agenda here but we found a human child kennel hand and a tiefling serf on the property before finding out about the cultists of Levistus, the ruler of Stygia, one of the 9 layers of Hel. An albino wizard tiefling was also said to reside here in the lower levels and once we found directions we went there first.

Finding slaves weighed down and drowned in the water, brown mold on the walls and a frozen effigy/shrine of Levistus we walked in on the female wizard, named Avarice, and her familiar who recognised us and tasked us with finding Ythrin a lost netherse city offering gold and riches. She had no attachment to the cultists. We searched further in the cistern and found suicidal captives who had been ritually mutilated and amputated in the name of Levistus whose suffering we ended at their request.request.

Date

The trio left Caer Dineval on the search of the Battlehammers missing iron ingots. En route to the location we met three frostbitten dwarves of the same clan, fingers, ears and toes taken by the ice, directing us where to go should we wish to help them out on retrieving their lost cargo. They offered more gems and a wares discount and as polite as we are offered the Clan hospitality at the Caer. Suspicious of the albino tiefling I assured them she was a resident in the lower parts and that the hall would be open to them. We trekked in the direction of the mountain keep only to be met with a blizzard, so took shelter til it passed. A wailing filled the air as we waited for it to pass and ventured to investigate. A body claimed by the Dale, possessed with a Spirit wasted no time in trying to blind us with a piercing light before striking out with hammering fists and icy blasts. It was strong and delivered might blows whilst blinding us but we prevailed and left the body in the snow to find tracks of the moved sled and small footprints. Desperate goblins had seized the cargo and were hauling it back to their lair, so the owl familiar had seen. It seemed the goblins had eyes in the sky too, a druid amongst their number alerted them to our presence and our plans for ambush were thwarted. However the ingots were reclaimed after dispatching half a dozen of them pulling the sled, whilst the druid fled with another cart pulled by polar bears. There are goblins out there doing the Frost Maidens work. Maybe looking for them another time may be a worthy goal? Getting the ingots back to the battlehammers was our priority, claiming gold and blood stone gems as payment before pondering our next move across the snowy landscape.
